Light Bulbs

So this is a little random.
Am I the only person who often just has random weird thoughts about everyday things???
Today I was flying into Edmonton from Inuvik and maybe its because I've been away from anything city for a month, but I just couldn't believe all the lights.  I mean, if you think about it there is a light bulb installed for every single light.  That's a TON of light bulbs!  I just was looking out the window and could not even fathom the amount of light bulbs it takes to just light one city block and the homes or businesses let alone a whole city!  Its just one of those things, like if you say a word too many times it starts to sound really weird, this just blew my mind.  At one time when the sun set the earth was dark, not anymore, we just flick a switch and magically a little glass bulb allows us to see.  Its just way too easy.
My random thought of the day.

Not exactly Edmonton but city enough!

Eat, Breathe, Ski!

Just had to attach this video!
I just finished watching it, not sure if there are many who read this who ski, but it just gives me that feeling that you can't explain!  If you love skiing then you'll know exactly what I am talking about! Amazing filming and photography also.

The Beautiful North

So I'm still up here in Inuvik.  Its beautiful here!  I've got a few pictures, but not too many because there isn't much daylight, so not much time to take pictures.  The sun no longer comes up, it gets light out still, but its always dim, sorta like evening light (if that makes any sense).  Before the sun stopped coming up we would have the most amazing sunrises, the sky would be fire red, orange, yellow. I got a few pictures but then had problems with my memory card and they all got erased.  So I got my card working again but these pictures just don't do it justice, I can't even explain how awesome it was, these are taken on the last day we saw the sun so the sunrise wasn't quite what it had been. These are taken right outside the hangar I work in, the windows in the hangar look out to this, its awesome!

This is the hangar I work in, and the machines I'm working on right now.

Not too interesting I know!
This is the house I am staying in, the black one on the left is mine, and thats my red car! They have the most colourful houses up here, it makes the drab and dark winters a lot more cheerful!

And I just thought this picture was kinda cool cause it means we are 1220km NORTH of Whitehorse.

Well thats it, sorry I don't have better pictures, I had a whole bunch before they all got erased.  I've got a week left and I am definitely looking forward to coming home!

Inuvik

I arrived!
No pictures yet...I still need to get a card for the camera.  Its been alright so far, only -20 but surprisingly doesn't feel all that cold.  Sun comes up around 11:30am and sets around 4pm but that time frame is starting to narrow very fast.  The town is pretty cute, population 3500.  All of the houses are built on platform sorta things and no basements because of the permafrost.  If they were built right on the ground it would cause it to thaw and then shift (it stays frozen all year round!).  Groceries are crazy expensive...I had to go to 3 grocery stores to get everything I needed, one has good veggies, one has a deli, and the third has everything else...after all that it cost about $160 and I got home unloaded and realized I really didn't even have anything!  The produce is horrible cause right now the only way to get up here is to fly so they have to fly all the food and everything in!  During the summer they have a ferry and then during the winter they have an ice road to get up here, but until the roads totally freeze, flying is the only way!

Ok thats all for now.

Northern Bound

To Inuvik I go!
I am actually really excited!.  Although it will pretty much be in the dead of winter and probably a balmy -35 deg, with approx. an hour of daylight its still gonna be awesome!

Here is a map of where I am going:

I leave on Wednesday the 18th.

Off to the land of the ice and snow!

Winter is in the air!

I am back from Penticton! I was there for a month on my last tour...it was the best! First time home for longer than a weekend in probably about 2 years...Kinda strange going home to go to work but i can't think of a better place to have to end up in.

I dog-sat a puppy a couple days ago for a night. This is her and she is beautiful! Its too bad I'm not a very good watch...I left her outside...she ate something she shouldn't have and then she was sick about 15 times in the night...Not even exaggerating! Poor girl!

I can't wait...

Winter is coming and it is going to be glorious. There is a shiny new (new to us) snowmobile waiting patiently outside! Now that there are two of them we no longer have to share a ride up the hill!!!

This was my way up last winter:
You can't really see in this picture but it is a tow rope attached to the sled with a bike tube (to absorb the impact cause it was STEEP in some places) But to be honest i'm kinda gonna miss that way up it was so fun...almost as much as going down!

This is my way up this winter:

The bottom one isn't quite ready yet...Jay has been rebuilding both of them for the past couple months!!! Isn't he wonderful! Now just trying to be patient waiting for the snow!

My past couple weeks in a nut-shell!

To me it is the most beautiful.

Ft. Mac

So I wrote this huge post and then decided to not post it. It was all about the oil sands up here and how disgusting they are but I figured maybe I would keep this rainbows and sunshine. No one want to read about the horribleness of this place.

I don't have a camera with me so no documenting anything. I am still alive. Haven't been writing anything cause there isn't much to say really. I'm in Ft. Mac, I get to go home in a little over a week probably. I've been here for 2 weeks now and working looooong days. Thats it though. Can't wait to go home! yay
